Spotify has crossed 300 million subscribers for the first time, the company announced Tuesday. The streaming platform also reported 777 million monthly active users in the second quarter, a 12% increase from the prior year.

The growth is notable because it came even as Spotify raised subscription prices in several regions this year, with subscribers still climbing 9% for the quarter. Quarterly revenue reached €4.8 billion, or roughly $5.52 billion, up 14% year-over-year.

Much of the expansion reflects Spotify’s push beyond music streaming. The company has introduced fitness content, narrated magazine articles, concert ticket sales, and even physical book purchases in an effort to diversify its offerings and keep subscribers engaged.

Artificial intelligence has become a central focus as well. Spotify has released tools for creating personalized podcasts from various content sources and launched an experimental desktop app resembling Google’s NotebookLM. The company has also added AI-powered Q&A and briefing tools for podcasts, partnered with ElevenLabs on audiobook creation, and enabled fan-generated remixes through label agreements, alongside a conversational AI assistant launched last month that lets users steer content through prompts.

The growth comes despite rising backlash over AI-generated music on the platform. Spotify has responded with verified artist badges to distinguish human creators and optional labeling for AI-generated tracks, though some users have turned to third-party tools to track AI-generated content on the platform.

The results suggest Spotify’s diversification and AI investments are translating into subscriber growth, even as pricing and content authenticity remain points of tension with its user base.
